On 1 September, hurricane Dorian hit the northern coast of the Bahamas. The damage is massive, leaving an estimated 70,000 people homeless and in need of relief. But it’s difficult to get help to the area, since both infrastructure and means of transportation have been destroyed. DSV is helping Red Cross send equipment to the most affected areas.

In observation of the International Day of Charity, we look at how DSV is working with the Danish Red Cross to provide disaster and emergency relief. With the help of DSV, Danish Red Cross is investing in and preparing aid for vulnerable communities before - and not after - they are hit by weather-related disasters. This saves both lives and money.

Same as last year, Panalpina assisted UNICEF by flying relief aid to Africa to help children in South Sudan, where the humanitarian needs after years of conflict remain massive. A Panalpina chartered cargo aircraft landed last night in neighboring Uganda, carrying nearly 70 tons of supplies. The supplies will be trucked to South Sudan and distributed across the country as the dry season begins.

24 hours can seem endless when a hurricane passes over you. The people of Saint Martin had to live through this experience on Wednesday, September 6, as Hurricane Irma battered the Caribbean island causing widespread devastation. The category 5 storm left the island’s residents isolated and in desperate need for aid, and Panalpina was called to help.
